Pediatric Primary Care is our largest program. Children are seen at the Helmsley Medical Tower, Fifth Floor for regular checkups, sick visits, routine vaccinations, and screening tests. Children are examined by the same team of doctors and nurses every time they come. This gives the doctor, nurse, child and parents the opportunity to get to know each other.

We accept Medicaid and a variety of Medicaid Managed Care plans, including the New York Hospital Community Health Plan. Some Child Health Plus Plans are also accepted here. Please speak with the appointment desk to ask if your insurance is accepted. Forms and blood work for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) can be done quickly by our Med-Surg Technicians. We recommend making this appointment one-week before your WIC appointment.

Special Programs

Adolescent Program
Teenagers are seen in our adolescent program by a specialized team of health care professionals, including adolescent medicine specialists, social workers, health educators, and a dedicated adolescent nurse. The program is designed to provide comprehensive health care to adolescents and their families, including general medical care, gynecologic care(including contraceptive counseling), STD testing and treatment, and mental health counseling. Both morning and afternoon appointments are available for adolescent visits.

Compass
Compass is a comprehensive program for transgender and gender-diverse children and adolescents in a safe, welcoming, and nonjudgmental space. The program supports youth as they navigate their gender experience by providing mental, sexual and reproductive health counseling, family support, comprehensive assessment and gender-affirming hormone treatment.

Health 4 Life
Health 4 Life (H4L) is a family-centered lifestyle intervention program for overweight children and adolescents. The program provides a safe and supportive environment for 4-18 year-olds and their families who are interested in improved health through healthier diets and increased physical activity.

Neonatal Neurodevelopmental Clinic
The neurodevelopmental and nutritional progress of infants at risk during their first three years of life is evaluated by neonatal attendings, fellows, physical and occupational therapists, and a nutritionist as part of our neonatal follow-up program. High-risk infants are evaluated for six years.

Reach Out and Read
A national hospital-based pre-literacy program that links reading aloud with giving books to children aged six months to five years during their primary health care visits. During pediatric primary care visits, the health care provider, a doctor or nurse practitioner, offers the child a gift of a specially selected book.

Teen Age Parenting
The Teen Age Parenting Program (TAPP) program provides care for adolescent mothers and their babies for infant and child care at the same time. Issues of being an adolescent and a parent are addressed. We help adolescent parents with some of the problems they may have through a team approach.

Special Needs Program
Children and adolescents with special medical needs are followed in a special program that provides coordination of medical care, handling of subspecialty referrals and medical equipment requests. A dedicated team of doctors, nurses and social workers coordinates all aspects of their care.

Heads Up! Children Read Listen and Learn!
Every child seen for well child care receives an age-appropriate book from their physician to encourage the habit of reading at an early age.

Talking about Duncan K. Hau, M.D.

Dr. Hau evaluated my newborn at NYP Lower Manhattan. He is the most gentle and caring pediatrician. He was so sweet to my baby boy and extremely thorough and knowledgeable. I wish he could be son's regular doctor, I absolutely adored him.
